Mumbai | A wave of panic swept through a ladies’ special compartment of a local train when a suspicious man, disguised in a burqa, was spotted among female passengers. Although the women attempted to apprehend him and even recorded the confrontation on their mobile phones, the suspect managed to escape by leaping from the moving train as it approached Ghatkopar station.

The incident occurred on a CSMT-bound (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) local train. As the train neared Ghatkopar, passengers grew suspicious of a person clad in a burqa. Upon being confronted and questioned by the women, the individual appeared visibly agitated and struggled to provide coherent answers. Sensing trouble, some passengers began filming the encounter.

As the train slowed down at Ghatkopar station, the suspect suddenly jumped onto the platform and dashed toward a Karjat-bound fast train waiting on the opposite track, successfully making his getaway. Despite immediate alerts to the Railway Police and subsequent intensified searches at Mulund and Thane stations, the suspect remains at large.

The Ghatkopar Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case under Section 162 of the Railway Act. Senior Official Sambhaji Yadav of the Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed that joint teams of the GRP and RPF are currently tracking the suspect.

This security breach has once again raised serious concerns regarding the safety of women in Mumbai’s lifeline. Railway authorities have urged passengers to report any suspicious activity immediately. Utilizing the viral video and witness statements, the police are working to identify and arrest the suspect.
