A shocking incident occurred in the U.S. state of Florida on Monday evening when a small aircraft made an emergency landing on Interstate 95 (I-95) and crashed into a moving car during regular traffic. The dramatic moment was captured on the dashcam of a vehicle driving behind the crash site and the footage has since gone viral on social media. Miraculously, no one suffered serious injuries though the incident left everyone stunned.
The accident took place around 5:45 PM in the Cocoa area of Brevard County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the aircraft was a Beechcraft 55 that had taken off on an instructional flight from Merritt Island. During the flight, both of the plane’s engines malfunctioned, forcing the pilot to perform an emergency landing on the highway. While coming down, the aircraft’s landing gear struck a 2023 Toyota Camry driving southbound, resulting in a heavy impact.
The collision was so intense that the plane rode over the top of the car and came to a stop against a concrete barrier. Dashcam footage clearly shows the car traveling at normal speed when the plane suddenly descends and the aircraft’s wheel lands directly on the rear of the car. The car halts instantly while the plane slides across the roadway before coming to rest.

The video was recorded by James Coffee who was driving directly behind the car involved in the crash. He and his son, Peter, stated that they were just three seconds away from being hit themselves. Peter said he initially thought the plane would land beside the car but instead its wheel dropped straight onto the vehicle.
The 57-year-old woman from Melbourne, who was driving the Camry, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment. The 27-year-old pilot from Orlando and his 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace escaped unharmed. According to Brevard County Fire Rescue, two Central Florida pastors also arrived at the scene and helped the injured woman.
Following the accident, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 were temporarily blocked causing traffic congestion during the evening rush hour. The lanes were reopened after a few hours.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the pilot had reported engine trouble before landing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation which will review flight track data, air traffic control recordings, aircraft maintenance records and the pilot’s license. The Florida Highway Patrol is also conducting a separate investigation.
