Moscow/Kiev | In a televised speech to the nation on Thursday morning, President Vladimir Putin said Russia did not plan to occupy Ukraine but warned that Moscow’s response would be “instant” if anyone tries to take on Russia, the BBC reported.
He warned countries that any attempt to interfere with the Russian action would lead to consequences that they would have never seen before.
In Kiev, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dymtro Kuleba said that Putin has launched a “full-scale invasion of Ukraine”.
“Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now”, he said.
Condemning Putin’s latest move as “unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces”, US President Joe Biden said that the Russian leader has “chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering”.
In a statement released by the White House, Biden said: “Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the US and its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. “The world will hold Russia accountable.”
