New Delhi: To check black-marketing of goods under essential commodities and enforce lockdown measures following coronavirus outbreak, a joint team of Delhi police and the state government on Thursday raided a number of shops in the national capital and seized goods worth lakhs of rupees and arrested a few traders, sources said.
Police sources said in one such joint action with civil supplies officials in Janakpuri (west Delhi), the owner of M/S Rathi Store (Chanakya Palace), was found absent, and the outlet did not have the record of goods. The team recovered 115 quintals of wheat-rice. A case was registered against the owner Prashant Rathi who has been arrested.
In another case, the joint team on Thursday raided North-East District’s Seelampur area, where two persons were arrested for selling medicines in black. A case under the Epidemic Act has been registered against the accused.
Police sources said a large number of face masks and sanitizers were recovered from two medical stores of Seelampur.
On March 23, the joint team had raided areas falling under the Anand Vihar police station. Over one lakh gloves and sixty-five thousand packets of face masks were recovered from various outlets in Shanti Vihar and Karkardooma. An FIR was also registered against the accused, the sources added. IANS
