Gigantic tiger skin seized, 2 arrested
New Delhi : A gigantic tiger skin, about 11 feet long, was seized from Gariaband district in Chhattisgarh, police said on Thursday.
After the Wednesday night seizure, two people were arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The skin is reportedly worth millions of rupees in the international market. The length of the skin, excluding the tail, is 8.2 feet and the width is three feet.
“Following a tip that a flawless tiger pelt was on sale in Kukrar region, we established contact with the smugglers posing as buyers,” Additional Superintendent of Police Neha Pandey told IANS.
“Earlier too, several cases of wildlife contraband seizure had been done in the region.”
Tito Joseph from the Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) told IANS that it was very important to know the region where the tiger was poached.
This is seventh such case of tiger poaching and seizure this year.
