Court notice to Twitter over hate speech videos

New Delhi : A court here on Friday issued notice to Twitter on a contempt complaint seeking suspension of operation of the Twitter account of a woman called Sakshi Bhardwaj who is making hate speeches about Sikh gurus and religion.

Acting on a complaint application filed by advocate Gurmeet Singh, Additional Senior Civil Judge Jasjeet Kaur issued the notice.

The court listed the matter for further hearing on March 9.

The court had in November last year restrained Google India from uploading and publishing any videos containing hate speeches and derogatory remarks against any religion and in particular, against the Sikh community.

After watching some of the videos, Judge Kaur had ordered for removal of all such videos of Bhardwaj and gave Google India seven days’ time for this.

The plea seeking removal of hate speech videos against the Sikh religion was filed by railway official Gurcharan Singh Walia, 53, through his counsel Gurmeet Singh.

The complainant told the court that on October 28 last year, he saw videos and photographs on social media where Bhardwaj was delivering a hate speech against Sikhism.
