Unnao woman who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of rape, sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareilly district on Sunday. Two other women who were in the car along with the rape survivor died in the accident. The girl’s lawyer who according to the reports, was driving the vehicle suffered serious injuries and has been admitted in Trauma Centre in Lucknow.

According to reports, the accident took place when the rape survivor along with her lawyer and two aunts was travelling to Rabareilly from Unnao to meet her uncle who is lodged in jail. A truck coming from the opposite direction hit the car causing the severe accident.

Advocate Vimal Kumar Yadav, junior of Advocate Mahendra Singh (rape survivor’s lawyer) told media that rape victim, her mother, her aunt and her lawyer were injured in the accident. Both the women succumbed to their injuries and the victim and the lawyer are critically injured, reported ANI.

Police have arrested the truck owner and the driver and they are being interrogated to find out any foul play.

ANI also quoted Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra as saying that Unnao rape victim met with an accident today under mysterious circumstances and two members of her family died in the accident. Therefore, Congress party demands an investigation, she said.

Unnao rape case came to light in April last year when the survivor attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in Lucknow, alleging that the police did not act on her complaint against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. She had accused Sengar of abducting and raping her in 2017. Initially, police had conducted the investigation but after the outburst, the case was transferred to the CBI which was presently investigating the case.

Later, Sengar was arrested and sent to jail. He is presently lodged in Sitapur jail.

On April 3, the survivor’s father was allegedly brutally thrashed by MLA’s younger brother Atul Singh and his men in the village in Unnao. He was sent to jail under various charges including the Arms Act. On April 8, survivor’s father died in judicial custody after his condition deteriorated.
