11-year-old minor girl was first allegedly raped by 66-year-old lift operator

The 11-year-old Chennai girl who was allegedly raped by 17 men over several months was first sexually assaulted by a 66-year-old lift operator. The girl has hearing disability. She is the daughter of a resident in the apartment complex.

She was allegedly raped on the apartment campus by lift operator, plumber, electrician and security guards, the police said. The accused are in the age group of 23-66.

Hindustan Times quoted police as saying that the girl was first sexually assaulted by 66-year-old lift operator after she returned from school and later several others joined in the assault. The crime was also filmed by the girl’s perpetrators.

The daily quoted a police officer as saying that the victim had identified all the accused and four of them have confessed to the assault. Two others told police that they had molested the girl.

Police have formed teams which are making efforts to nab the absconding accused.

The accused have been charged under Indian Penal Code provisions and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A court here remanded them in judicial custody till July 31.

The matter came to light when the girl narrated her ordeal to her elder sister on Monday and their parents were informed. A police complaint was lodged by the girls’ parents.
