The famous Jaffarabadi buffalo “Pradhan Babu” from Bihar’s Rohtas district has become the biggest attraction at this year’s Sonepur Fair. Known for its massive build, impressive gait and superior genetic quality, the buffalo has drawn large crowds since its arrival. Its estimated value has reportedly reached close to ₹1 crore, further increasing public interest.

Aged 38 months, this giant buffalo measures nearly eight feet in length and over five feet in height. Its owner, Brahmdev Singh Kushwaha, says that Pradhan Babu is exceptionally robust and consumes about eight litres of milk daily.

Originating from Gujarat, the Jaffarabadi breed is renowned for producing offspring with excellent health and high milk-yielding capabilities. Owing to this superior lineage, there is strong demand for its semen for artificial insemination. According to media reports, Pradhan Babu generates an annual income of approximately ₹21 lakh through semen sales.

Animal experts believe that showcasing the buffalo at a prestigious platform like the Sonepur Fair will further increase its market value. All eyes are now on whether Pradhan Babu will become one of the most expensive animals ever sold in the history of the fair.
