Government bans export of onions with immediate effect to check rising prices

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Sunday imposed ban on export of all varieties of onions with immediate effect. This has been done to check rising prices of onion.
“Export policy of onion for the item description at Serial Number 51 and 52 of Chapter 7 of Schedule 2 of ITC (HS) classification of Export and Import Items is amended from free to prohibited till further orders,” a Commerce Ministry notification said.
The rise in the prices of onion has led to public outcry.
Price of onion touched a high of Rs 80 per kg across different cities in the country.
