New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday rejected the Congress’ proposal for an alliance in Delhi. With this all hopes for a tie-up between the two parties have come to naught.
The Congress had demanded three seats in Delhi, where the AAP is in power. It had also rejected the offer for alliances in Haryana and Punjab.
Speaking to IANS, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who was mediating the alliance talks here, said, “The AAP rejected the Congress’ proposal as it was impractical and wrong. The Congress is trying to give benefits to the BJP and help it in states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Kerala.”
“It is doing the same in Delhi,” Singh added.
He said that the Congress was not ready for an alliance with the AAP in Punjab, where the latter has four MPs and 20 MLAs.
“They were neither ready for an alliance in Chandigarh where we got 1.5 lakh votes, nor in Goa where we have six per cent of the total vote share,” Singh added.
He also attacked the Congress for not being ready for an alliance in Haryana where they only have one MP.
“After rejecting all our offers, they expected us to give them three seats (in Delhi) where they have zero MP and MLA,” he added.
The AAP MP said the Congress’ proposal is intended to help the BJP. “So we rejected it,” he added.
