AAP MP arranges chartered flight for 180 migrants

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, here on Thursday, arranged a chartered flight for 180 migrant workers to ferry them from Delhi to Bihar, a day after he gave up his MP flying quota for 33 migrants.

Singh has been ferrying stranded migrant workers from Delhi to Bihar through private buses as well. “Singh has now arranged a chartered plane for 180 workers to fly them to Bihar,” a statement from his office read.

The chartered Vistara flight for Patna left the Delhi airport at 6 p.m.

“All the migrant workers gathered at MP’s residence for the necessary documentation process. They were briefed about the safety measures against the coronavirus while travelling. After the briefing and paperwork, six buses left for the airport at 1 p.m. with the workers,” it said.

Singh had accompanied 33 migrant workers in a flight to Patna on Wednesday.

The Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member has been helping the migrant labourers stranded in Delhi due to lockdown. He has also been supplying monthly rations to the needy.

On Tuesday, he had sent 271 migrant labourers in 9 buses from Delhi to 10 districts of Bihar. “Till now he has sent 1,200 workers in 41 buses to Bihar, UP and MP,” it said.

On May 24, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal praised the him and his wife Anita Singh for providing food and transportation to the migrants.
